Cardboard Boat Designs

Boat Regatta or cardboard boat designs are fun to make especially if it’s for a competition. Competition of these unusual boats is common in high school and college. It’s fun and promotes creativity of every contestant.

In a usual competition, the competitors are given a fixed time to build their cardboard boat designs. It’s also common that the contestants are given only a specified number of materials to be used. As always, duct tape is the most important of these materials as this is the one that will hold everything together.

After completing the cardboard boat designs, the teams will race to the finish line. It’s almost always that cardboard boats don’t get it to the finish line because they sink, flood, or shred due to weight and poor waterproofing. So contestants must swim to the finish line. There are also times when awards are given based on how much effort was put on building the boat instead of reaching the finish line. Actually, it will be amazing to watch a cardboard boat make it to the finish line.

This kind of competition is not yet as popular as other sports. But cardboard boat designs are becoming more and more famous. There are now competitions beyond college campuses. So it will not be a surprise if it will soon be the next favorite new sports of the world.

In 2010 alone, thousands of spectators were gathered by just 15 entries at the Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta. The astonishing cardboard boat designs were captivating and very interesting to look at. Just imagine how big the crowd will be in the years to come.
